Hi Shana! I didn't have any trouble at all with either of my kids, taking away the "binky". They both spit theirs out when they were fairly young, and they wanted nothing to do with them from there!.. Guess I was lucky, but it leaves me with hardly a bit of experience/advice for anyone else on that particular topic of child developement. Oh well.. I still wanted to say what a CUTIE you've got there! What a sweet photo! God bless him!

Hi Shana-

Yep, I think just about any cut in the pacifier would work (the "x" would be a good idea). What works the best about this idea is that you never take the pacifiers away from the child. You just "break" them so that they don't want to use them anymore. My first was over it within minutes. My second held his for a couple of days before he tearfully decided to throw them away (so sad for me) and SP is putting up a howling fight. She's almost determined to try and suck them with their brokeness. I've recently kinda sorta hidden them and that's actually working better. I guess each kid is so different! Just hang in there. The most important thing is not to start until you feel you're ready to be strong and stick with it. SP has had crying spells that have lasted up to an hour or more. If we weren't resolved, we would have caved and we wouldn't be getting anywhere (last night, she only cried for 20 min.). Good luck!!!!

Hi Shana! Thanks for the comment the ole blog today. I just wanted to respond to your question regarding the nuk/pacifier predicament. I ended it with my older two at 20 months in preparation for the next baby; however, we've let it lag on with Sweet Pea because she IS THE BABY! Anyway, she's now 25 months and at her two-year check-up the doctor said it had affected her bite. It's been a tough road with SP (she's a spunky fighter all the way), but we're sticking with it. One tip that I got from the ped. dr. and used with all three: when it's time to end the habit, make a vertical cut in the pacifiers and let the child keep them. That way, the sucking reflex is removed (der broten, momma), but you didn't have to take them away from the child. Worked well for the first two and is in the process of working for SP. Good luck!

I raised two boys of my own. Kids know how to push your buttons sometimes! I've screamed like a madwoman at times - it helps if you scream into a pillow. LOL! I still say your son is adorable, and I know you feel the same way!
